Fur the Animals

Did you know that ferrets are illegal in California? Or that stray, neighborhood cats are returned* to their place of origin after the shelter spays/neuters, vaccinates, and microchips them? Or that releasing your unwanted chicken into an existing, feral flock usually results in them being pecked to death? I suppose I didn’t need to know any of that to donate my photography services to the Bradshaw Animal Shelter, but I found the information in the volunteer orientation fascinating all the same.

Vest, J Crew. Shirt, Mossimo (thrifted). Tank, Old Navy. Skirt, Forever 21 (consignment). Boots, Vince Camuto. Hat, Who What Wear for Target. Bag, vintage.

*As long as the animal seems to have a reliable food source and hasn’t been abandoned. Plenty of friendly, homeless cats happily live out their lives in residential areas. This was probably the most interesting fact, to me. Basically, cats are treated like the wild animals they almost are. I can assure you that Sacramento has no shortage of rats for them to eat!

Can you clarify that you are referring to FERAL cats? I wouldn’t want anyone unfamiliar with cats to think a pet cat would be safe or healthy dumped on the street.
