Dull

This outfit turned out a bit dowdier than I would have liked. With gray hair, I have to be extra careful that my thrift-store clothes don’t age me.

I like a little “edge” to my outfits. I used to add that with pink hair or denim or short hemlines. None of those are permitted in my current line of work. (High heels would also de-dowdify, but, while those are permitted, most are impossible for six hours of standing.) Maybe I just need to add more leather to my wardrobe.

This outfit was one of those that made me feel 20 years older than I actually am. (I’ll be 42 next week!) It needed a little edge.

Sweater, Monterey Bay (thrifted). Skirt, Carole Little (thrifted). Shoes, ASOS. Scarf, Earrings, flea market. Frangi (consignment).

Outfit is lovely and quirky enough 😉 What perhaps you perceive as “dowdy” is, surprisingly, the chignon. While classy and cool with an edgier oufit (short skirt/short/leather), maybe not so much combined with the long skirt and black sweater. Nonetheless, def not “dowdy”!

I think you are right. You can’t tell from the pictures, but my hair was stiff with dry shampoo and hairspray. That made me feel dowdy, too.

Hmmm, I see what you mean about the dowdy-ness of this particular look. I think maybe it’s the shoes that do it, if you swapped them out for a more adventurous pair I bet you’d get a very different vibe!

I think my black booties would have looked better and been comfortable, but it was so hot outside!

I think you look great, and – the red heels give you a little edge.
