Inspired by two of my destination cities, San Diego and Santa Monica, I added nautical flair to my six, business casual outfits.
On three of the five evenings I spent in Southern California, I visited the beach. Each time, it was tough to drag myself away from the dynamic seaside to another sterile hotel ballroom. I think I’d rather speak on the beach.
I packed a capsule of six business casual outfits to lead seminars in San Diego, Anaheim, Ontario, Santa Monica, and Burbank.
The capsule palette was black, white, navy, gray, and leopard. I would usually only bring one jacket for a week-long swing, but I brought two, this time, for variety.
These are the capsule items:
Moto Jacket (XOXO)
Blazer (James Jeans)
Dress (Banana Republic)
Sweater (Outback Red)
Long-sleeved tee (Gap)
Turtleneck (A New Day)
Tank (Old Navy)
Skirts – 2 (Merona and Victoria’s Secret)
Flats (Isaac Mizrahi)
Necklaces – 2 (Serket Jewelry and Banana Republic)
Earrings – 2 (vintage and Francesca’s)

Pros: The silhouettes and colors worked well, together. I loved the pairing of black and navy. Both of the jackets are very flattering. The stripes and band sweater added just the right nautical elements for my seaside venues.
Cons: The sweater was almost too thick to wear under the blazer. I’m not sure if this is a con . . . I had to throw a poncho into my suitcase just to add more bulk, because my capsule took up so little space.
Overall: Two thumbs up!
