Bricks and Mortar

We all have our fashion hangups: some garment or some color or some fabric we just won't wear. Maybe it's ponchos or yellow or wool.

I used to have an aversion to gray and brown, together. (I was also prejudiced against black and navy and black and brown.) I was sure that they just looked “off,” like I’d dressed in the dark. Then, I noticed how well gray and brown went together in nature: feathers, fur, trees, rocks. No one would say those clash. Here’s another example of gray and brown pairing well together: bricks and mortar. You can’t build a wall without both!

Sweater, Covington (thrifted). Skirt, Madewell. Tights, Target. Shoes, ASOS. Necklace, Rennaisance Faire.

There’s still one color combo I can’t stomach: red and brown. Someone once said that the pairing reminded them of a scab and it’s forever tainted in my mind.

I have a real problem with pink and red together, for some reason. Unless it’s some kind of intentionally Valentine’s Day-y thing, I cannot stomach it.

I think some people feel that way about red and green too

Me too! I always try to mix some brown in with my black and orange. That softens it for me.

Same problem as the previous posters, and including the red and green. Also black and yellow, ever since someone told me it’s an animal signal of danger. But I’m going to look into the gray and brown.

I don’t really like yellow at all, any more. But I hear it’s trendy this spring!

I once wore a bright orange fleece zip-up (a leftover pseduo hi-vis hiking garment) over a green hoodie and asked my husband if I looked like a pumpkin. “No, you’re silly”, he replied as we drove to my sister’s house. My sister greets me: “You look like a pumpkin!”. LOL.

I love your biology/nature references in pairing with your lens necklace. As a scientist with minimal tastes in jewelry, I am quite jealous of this wonderful piece. Plus, the outfit is wonderful!

I actually wore it to sub science! When a student asked about it, I held it up to my eye and told her I wore it to “keep an eye on you!”
