I thought I was so clever to layer a sundress beneath my open-weave tunic. But you can’t even see the fresh green under the white and it bunched up to my waist while I was on a photoshoot. At least I wore nude underwear! Talk about a hot look.

I’m dodging trains and bums for today’s photos. (I’m kidding on the trains. The trains in this location only come in on the weekdays and they are not active when I’m in the area.) As illicit as it feels to creep between the train and outbuilding for photos, I can only imagine what it’s like for the graffiti artists who decorate the yard. I’d be terrified of being caught “paint-handed.”
Shirt, Mossimo (thrifted). Dress, Express. Shoes, Superga for Target. Sunglasses, Marc Jacobs. Bandana, Mono Lake Visitor Center. Bag, A+ designed by Aldo.
I took the day off to do some substitute teacher training. The STEDI (Substitute Teaching Institute) SubSkills training courses are really good! I’m excited to try some of the classroom management and teaching techniques.

Ten years ago, a woman approached me at Dillard’s and asked me to help her choose accessories for her Derby dress. I had so much fun helping her select shoes, a bag, a hat, and a wrap. At the time, the prospect of styling others for a living was only a fantasy. Today, my dream came true and I had my first client.
Jacket, Jessica Simpson (thrifted). Tunic, (thrifted). Boots, Sofft (consignment). Scarf, Urban Outfitters.
Just for giggles, here’s what I was wearing on that trip to Dillard’s in 2007:
I’m still figuring out my photography “uniform.” So far, I’m really liking leggings with a tunic or shorts. I want to feel comfortable crawling beneath a table to run extension cords and standing on a counter to get the perfect shot. For today’s shoot, I shucked the vest, bag, gloves, and boots and got acrobatic with the camera.
Vest, Vero Moda (thrifted). Jacket, Jessica Simpson (thrifted). Dress, Shein (consignment). Leggings, Express. Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Scarf, swap. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff. Gloves, made by Beefy’s grandma.
I went thrifting today and documented the whole trip (including try-ons) on Snapchat. It was like thrifting with a virtual friend! (And Beefy said I finally did Snapchat right.) The snaps don’t hang around long, but, never fear, I plan to recap the experience and wear my new finds in a Let’s Go Thrifting post next week. I’m whatiwore2day if you’d like to be Snapchat friends. (As of this publication date/time, a few snaps from my birthday photo shoot are still up.)
Jacket,H&M (thrifted). Tee, Disney. Skirt, Ann Taylor (thrifted). Boots, Joe’s. Earrings, flea market. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.
I received many compliments on my booties and hair at the Goodwill. I dyed it blue this morning with a temporary color. Now that I now longer work for Wella, I can tell you that I do not follow the directions and leave the Color Touch iNSTAMAT!C in Ocean Storm on for a full hour, instead of the directed 20 minutes. It really sticks to the bleached ends and my natural whites. It will quickly fade to a soft silver, even without using shampoo. Just rinsing and conditioning fade the color noticeably, so it’s a great option for someone who’d like to have blue or pink hair for just a long weekend or vacation.
It’s my tenth blogoversary and I’m not quitting this outfit diary. Are you curious about what’s new in Year Eleven of WhatIWore2Day?
Shirt, Moda International. Skirt, Talbot’s. Shoes, Enzo Angiolini.
First of all, I’ve given up on replacing the green cardigan that I wore with this blouse and skirt in my very first outfit post (and the first four blogoversaries). After the sweater was ruined by dye transfer from a dark purple shirt, I attempted to replace it with three different green jackets and a denim vest for my later blogoversaries. This year, I just wore a nude camisole underneath and went topper-less. This is California, after all. We still see 80 degrees and higher in October.
Second, I’m embracing my natural hair color. It used to be dishwater blonde, but now it’s coming in silvery and I like it.
Last, I am trying Snapchat as a platform to show you behind the scenes, outfit details, and outfits in motion. My user name is whatiwore2day. (I’ll be honest, I’m still trying to figure it out, but Beefy is younger than I, so hopefully he’ll help.)
Here’s to another great year!
