· Military inspired joggers ·
I had an old Marine Corps vet in my seminar today and he told me that he wore uniform pants much like these. By my time, the uniform trousers were ultra-starched, camouflage, cargo pants. I would have preferred trousers like these. (But I think silk would have been highly impractical.)
Sweater, Covington (thrifted). Pants, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Boots, Vionic. Necklace, made by my friend. Blazer, vintage.
· I liked it ·
I had a lovely two days in Eugene. The skies were clear and the golden sunshine highlighted the autumnal trees. I couldn’t get enough of the good food and drinks. And I had a wonderful shop at the Goodwill Boutique.
Blazer, vintage. Sweater, Covington (thrifted). Skirt, Plenty by Tracy Reese (thrifted). Boots, Vionic. Necklace, made by my friend. Bag, thrifted.
· Deep in the Navajo Nation ·
The Canyon de Chelly, an incredible gap in the land, concealing cliff houses and a long strip of oasis, was a complete surprise to me. In fact, I was continually delighted by the views as I drove the distance from Durango, CO to Chinle, AZ. This corner of the world is breathtaking.
Jacket, XOXO (thrifted). Scarf, Frangi (consignment). Dress, Old Navy (thrifted). Boots, Vionic. Hat, Nine West. Necklace, gift.

These hot, dry, summer days make me think of the desert. We’re lucky to have the oases of the American and Sacramento rivers in Sacramento. Not that the desert is all bad. I enjoyed my recent visit to the Las Vegas desert and will be in Arizona at the end of August.
Shirt, Banana Republic (thrifted). Bralette, Victoria’s Secret. Shorts, Arizona Jeans (thrifted). Mules, Paprika. Sunglasses, Target. Earrings, Rain’s Embellishments. Bag, Loungefly (gift). Rings, vintage, heirloom, and/or thrifted.
· Too much? ·
Is a red jacket over a red dress “too much?” Not pictured: my big red suitcase. I gave up on packing my personal items in a carry-on (that I would check, anyway, due to the toiletries). My style is maximal, not minimal. Red on red on red.
Jacket, thrifted. Dress, Donna Morgan. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi (eBay). Earrings, gift.
· Toastmasters international speech competition ·
I did my best but did not win the Toastmasters Area 74 international speech competition. It certainly wasn’t for lack of style! (And the winner also was dressed to kill.)
Shirt, Banana Republic. Skirt, Victoria’s Secret. Shoes, Nine West. Earrings, vintage. Clutch, vintage gift.
I did come in second and earned a medal. Beefy took first place in the table topics competition and will proceed to the Division G contest, next!
No sour grapes, here! I truly believe the speech winner will represent our area well and deserved 1st place.
· All-day entertainment ·
The weather report predicted rain for days one and three of my three-day trip to NYC. On day one, I hid out in MOMA. On day three, I met Colette at the New York Public Library and we spent five hours exploring the building. There was the free tour, the movie, and then the challenge of trying to photograph every detail and vista.
Sweater, Banana Republic (consignment). Skirt, Mossimo. Leggings, C9. Boots, Vionic. Earrings, made by my friend. Backpack, Toms (gift). Purse, Rebecca Minkoff.
This is my second casual leopard skirt. The first one was made from a gauzy, ruffled polyester and had a drop waist that did me no favors. I did make some great outfits with it, though, including pairing it with this red and black plaid sweater. I’m repeating that 3 year old outfit with my newer leopard skirt and tons of accessories. (This March day in Sacramento was much colder than the December day at the ocean.)
Jacket, Chaps. Skirt, Mural (consignment). Boots, Vince Camuto. Hat, Free Press. Sunglasses, Marc Jacobs. Scarf, gift. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.
The inspiration outfit at Gualala in December 2013:
I subbed Math for the second time this week. This was a particularly interesting assignment because one of the classes was “Computer Math.” This turned out to be a coding class and I enjoyed seeing each student’s take on the assignment.
