· It goes with everything ·
Soon after beginning my speaking gigs, I realized I needed some neutral tops. I ordered tees from Everlane, thinking they’d fit the bill, but I don’t like them. I was lucky enough to find this sheer-shouldered tee at the Assistance League of Sacramento.

· Clothes that move ·
You’ll rarely see a photo of this skirt simply hanging from my waist. Instead, I like to catch it in a moment of movement.

· Closet consultation session ·
My styling sessions are one of the few opportunities I have to wear my favorite outfits. Home life is too casual and work (speaking) life is too formal for my preferred style.
Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Under Skies. Boots, Vionic. Sunglasses, Marc Jacobs. Brooches, thrifted. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

· More a street fair than a farmer’s market ·
I’m hiding in the corner of the library vestibule, trying to get my outfit photos done so that I can change and join the throngs headed towards the weekly farmers’ market. Locals are staring and foreign tourists (many French) are approaching me to see what I’m doing and if the library is open. It’s super awkward. (Only slightly more awkward than, next, changing in my car as the market attendees continue to stream past.)

· California State Fair ·
Visiting the California State Fair is overwhelming. The heat. The treats. The crowds. This time, we went with a plan. First, we viewed the air-conditioned exhibits. Then, once it cooled down, we rode the monorail and the gondola. Finally, we ate fried things: lobster fries, fried pickles, and a deep-fried Pop-Tart.

· Olive, black, and pink ·
Olive, black, and pink isn’t the most summery palette. I tend to think of turquoise blue, optic white, and neon yellow for summer. I’m bucking tradition by choosing a more sedate color trio, this season.
Shirt, Forever 21. Capris, Arizona Jeans (consignment). Shoes, Viscata. Sunglasses, Marc Jacobs. Earrings, Stardust Remembered. Necklace, Honeycat. Bag, Aldo.

· Missing my beauty sleep ·
I’ve never done well with little sleep. In fact, just the anticipation of missing a few hours impacts my performance. With all the recent travel and time zone changes, I’ve, quite surprisingly, gotten to be functional while sleep-deprived. On this day, I slept for 4 hours and then was up for 22. Thankfully, I had Thursday off to nap (if not sleep in, because, you know, DOGS).
Jacket, B. Young. Dress, Banana Republic (consignment). Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi. Necklace, thrifted.
My sleep hacks:
1. Sleep on the plane.
2. Listen to a boring podcast for 30 minutes (using the sleep timer) to fall asleep.
3. Wake up with lots of coffee, sun exposure, and some physical activity.
4. Minimize my morning routine (and maximize my rest) by sleeping in my makeup and going as long as possible without washing my hair. (Gross, I know. I just “patch” the eye makeup and add another layer of the rest. My hair is stiff with dry shampoo by the time I get home.)
· Where else can you wear sequins at 8 a.m.? ·
I asked the tech crew if they had a spotlight to hit my jacket while I made a slow spin on stage, disco ball style. Unfortunately, the ballroom was equipped with only standard lighting. I had to rely on my sparkly personality to engage my audience.
